I was drawn to the idea of “the cure for allergies” as both a literal object and a metaphor. S.O.S. is based on a short story I wrote while reflecting on my childhood and Haitian upbringing, where l’huile mascriti— Haitian black castor oil— was treated as a cure-all home remedy. That belief fascinated me and led me to wonder: what if it truly were the cure for everything?

The Rapper S.O.S. exists as a contradiction: charismatic yet unsettling, familiar yet unknowable. He represents the voice we often ignore... the warning hidden inside temptation. I was interested in exploring how easily authority can be assigned to someone simply because they sound confident, especially when they promise relief.

Ultimately, S.O.S. isn’t about good versus evil; it’s about choice, accountability, and the quiet moments where we decide who we are becoming. My hope is that audiences leave the film not asking whether they would take the cure— but why.
