Our Mission StatementWith City Lights & Company as its fiduciary, the Bridgeport Film Fest is making “philanthropy through film” a priority in Bridgeport, CT. This nonprofit initiative is dedicated to the discovery, championing and development of independent filmmakers and audiences.
Through various programming the festival seeks to showcase, guide and inspire independent film and theatre artists from the Bridgeport community and beyond. Local audiences will be enriched by the films, workshops, panels discussions and other forms of artistic expression curated by the festival team and will ensure the promotion of Downtown Bridgeport to continue to thrive as a cultural artistic center. Furthermore, we will give five Bridgeport high school seniors majoring in the arts and/or communications a $2,000 scholarship for pursuing higher education. *Link will bring you to the City Lights Website, who is our fiduciary sponsor.

"GREATEST RADIO STATION IN THE WORLD"
Public World Premiere!
Saturday, July 23
7:00pm-9:45pm Public World Premiere! Doors open at 7:00 | Film starts at 7:15pm Followed by Q+A with Director Cob Carlson, moderated by Dr. Shannon Pittman-Fairley TICKETS ON SALE HERE! WPKN began as the University of Bridgeport’s college radio station in 1963. It has been operating as a listener-supported, community-based radio station since 1989. There are only three paid staffers…the General Manager and the Operations Manager are full-time, and the Office Manager is part-time. All of the Programmers are volunteers. The film by Cob Carlson, will be carried by this cast of characters, as well as the listeners, station volunteers, and DJs from the past. We will hear interviewees share their personal, idiosyncratic stories, speaking passionately about their love of music, news, politics, health, cars, organic gardening, space exploration, and culture. Like the radio station, this film will be fearless, boldly independent, free form, and unconventional. WPKN prides itself on being a real alternative to an increasingly homogeneous broadcast radio landscape. It enriches the lives of their listeners while promoting diversity, tolerance, and freedom of expression. It is a story worth documenting! |
